Mark Sausser is a 4th Degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt with over two decades of coaching and martial arts experience. Before beginning his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey at age 40, he trained extensively in boxing, kickboxing, and other martial arts disciplines, building the tough, no-nonsense approach that has become his trademark as an instructor.
Since opening and operating academies in Norfolk in 2005, Mark has dedicated himself to developing skilled martial artists, competitors, and coaches. He began teaching as a purple belt and has spent years helping students reach their goals through hard work, accountability, and technical excellence.
A multiple-time No-Gi Pan American Champion with an extensive competition career, Mark has also coached numerous high-level competitors and MMA champions. His depth of experience, attention to detail, and ability to bring out the best in his students have earned him the respect of athletes throughout the region.
Known for his toughness, direct coaching style, and high standards, Mark believes that success is earned through discipline, consistency, and perseverance. At the same time, he is known for his sense of humor, approachable personality, and ability to make training both challenging and enjoyable. Students know they can expect honest feedback, hard work, and a few laughs along the way.
Today, Mark continues to share his passion for martial arts while helping shape the next generation of practitioners in the Hampton Roads community. His influence extends beyond the mats through the many students, competitors, coaches, and academy owners he has mentored throughout his career.
